ObesityWeek to feature hundreds of scientific sessions
Researchers, policy makers and health care providers will gather in National Harbor, Maryland, this fall for the fifth annual ObesityWeek conference that will include multiple keynote speakers and hundreds of scientific sessions addressing obesity research in medicine, according to a press release from The Obesity Society.
The meeting will be held Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 at The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.
Highlights from this year’s conference will include a keynote address by Rudolph L. Leibel, MD, director, division of molecular genetics and the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at Columbia University addressing “stem cell-derived hypothalamic neurons in the elucidation of the pathogenesis of human obesity.”
Other scientific sessions will include the following:
- The George L. Blackburn, MD, Nutrition and Metabolism Symposium;
- Harvey Grill, PhD, professor of neurobehavioral science at the University of Pennsylvania, on treating the hyperphagia driving obesity;
- Rena R. Wing, PhD, professor of psychiatry and human behavior at Brown University, on successful maintenance of reduced body weight;
- Joel Elmquist , DVM, PhD, professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, on the hypothalamic integration of exercise and metabolism;
- Matthew R. Hayes, PhD, associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Diana L. Williams, PhD, associate professor at Florida State University, and Christos Mantzoros, MD, professor at Beth Israel Deaconess, on central nervous system reward pathways;
- And Martin Binks, PhD, associate professor at Texas Tech University and Binks Behavioral, on deciding when and when not to eat.
