IDF, Eli Lilly launch second phase of international diabetes prevention initiative

The International Diabetes Federation and Eli Lilly are launching the second phase of a program to help people with diabetes effectively manage their disease, according to a press release.

The second iteration of the Bringing Research in Diabetes to Global Environments and Systems program (BRIDGES 2) will implement diabetes prevention interventions internationally, building on the initial phase, which operated from 2007 to 2015.

“Our goal is to translate evidence-based approaches from the first round of BRIDGES to other contexts and countries to improve the lives of people living with diabetes,” Robert A. Gabbay, MD, PhD, FACP, chief medical officer of Joslin Diabetes Center and chair of the steering group of BRIDGES 2, said in the release.

BRIDGES 2 is currently accepting grant proposals, and the recipients will be announced in September at the EASD annual meeting.

The selected projects will begin implementation in early 2018.
