Smart Meter announced that its iGlucose Blood Glucose Monitoring System has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA and CE Mark in Europe, according to a press release from the company.

The iGlucose system is a subscription-free meter and management system that automatically uploads data to the cloud.

The system also provides integrated communication between users with diabetes and members of their care team. The communication allows for reminders and management tips to be received via email or text message in addition to notes from health care professionals or loved ones.

The automated cloud syncing allows users to skip data uploads, as physicians are able to access the data immediately. In addition, payers can access the data through the web portal, lowering costs.

“We’re excited about our regulatory approvals because the iGlucose System’s ease of use makes it possible for family, friends and health care professionals to be truly engaged and support the person with diabetes in their daily diabetes management,” Cliff McIntosh, CEO of Smart Meter said in the release.

The meter is expected to available in both markets later this year.
