AUSTIN, Texas — This year’s meeting of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists Annual Scientific and Clinical Congress has already exceeded expectations, breaking records this year for attendance and new membership, Pauline Camacho, MD, FACE, said during the opening ceremony on Thursday.

“It just shows us the positive energy that AACE has,” Camacho, president of AACE and professor of medicine and director of the Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease Center at Loyola University Medical Center, said during her opening remarks. “That momentum is just moving forward. People are joining AACE, and I’m happy you are all here.”

The 2017 meeting location of Austin, Texas, was purposefully picked to drive home the meeting’s theme of innovation, Camacho said.

“We tried to be as innovative as possible in all aspects of the program,” she said.

Several technological advances are a focus of the 2017 program, according to S. Sethu Reddy, MD, MBA, FRCPC, FACP, MACE, chair of medicine at Central Michigan University College of Medicine and chair of the 2017 AACE Annual Program Committee. This year’s meeting promises to be a more interactive experience for members, Reddy said, and attendees can expect to find “extras” on the improved meeting app.

“Austin is a city of innovation. One of the things we’re trying to do is actually have the plenary speakers address your questions,” Reddy said, noting that the interaction will be digital.

Attendees can download the app to find an interactive plenary question-and-answer section, which plenary moderators will be able to see — and address — in live time, Reddy said. Attendees can also find a syllabus section on the app, which provides access to all PowerPoint presentations for meeting speakers.

“We look forward to your engagement with our international experts,” Reddy said. “On behalf of the program committee: Good learning, and enjoy the meeting.” – by Regina Schaffer
