Shire announced that it will be expanding its investigator-initiated research grants program for hypoparathyroidism to support independent, unsolicited research, according to a company press release.

Shire is a biotechnology company that focuses on rare diseases and specialized conditions.

“We are proud to support medical and scientific research in rare disease, and particularly target areas of significant unmet need, such as hypoparathyroidism,” Philip J. Vickers, head of research and development at Shire, said in the release. “We welcome proposals from researchers who can help build the scientific community’s knowledge about this condition. Supporting investigator-initiated research is an essential part of our mission to help people living with rare diseases.”

The expanded grant program is looking for researchers submitting proposals that are intended to expand clinical and scientific understanding of hypoparathyroidism.

Grant proposals can be submitted until December 15. Recipients will be announced in early 2017.
