VIDEO: Conversation Map tools provide tangible results in diabetes self-management education
SAN DIEGO — In this video exclusive, Endocrine Today Diabetes in Real Life columnist Susan Weiner, MS, RDN, CDE, CDN, speaks with Barbara Eichorst, MS, RD, CDE, vice president clinical of Healthy Interactions, about the effectiveness of the company’s Conversation Map tools, materials developed in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association and used in small diabetes education group settings to teach and reinforce positive self-management behaviors.
Eichorst and colleagues conducted a meta-analysis of eight international studies evaluating use of Conversation Maps with HbA1c as the primary outcome. The researchers found a .84% reduction in HbA1c in groups using Conversation Maps. The tools can be used as a full diabetes self-management education curriculum or as a supplement to an existing program, Eichorst said.
