In this video, Christopher Sorli, MD, of the Billings Clinic in Montana, discusses how recent advances in GLP-1 agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors have given physicians the opportunity to evolve their strategies when treating patients with diabetes.

Sorli mentions how it is no longer feasible to set global goals of reducing HbA1c to a set number, but instead physicians should set individualized targets for their patients.

“I would recommend that every patient you see with diabetes we add to their medical record what their [HbA1c] goal is,” he said. “Some of these newer [agents] that we have available really allow us to achieve these goals in a safe fashion and they provide patient-centric [care].”
