US News & World Report ranks top pediatric hospitals in diabetes, endocrinology

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has been named the No. 1 hospital in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology, according the US News & World Report rankings.

The top-rated hospitals in the 2016-17 report for the field of pediatric diabetes and endocrinology are as follows:

  1. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
  2. Boston Children's Hospital
  3. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center
  4. Children's Hospital Colorado, Aurora
  5. Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC
  6. Seattle Children's Hospital
  7. Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital, New Haven, Conn.
  8. Children's Hospital Los Angeles
  9. New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley-Komansky Children's Hospital
  10. UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, San Francisco and Oakland

“To be ranked among the top pediatric hospitals is an honor, which reflects our commitment to provide the optimum care for every child and family we serve,” Madeline Bell, president and chief executive officer of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, said in a press release. “The level of clinical excellence among the hospitals evaluated makes our inclusion gratifying, and I am proud of our dedicated and talented physicians, nurses and clinical support staff for their efforts on behalf of our patients.”

CHOP also received the No. 2 spot of the Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll, which ranks pediatric centers that perform at the highest levels in three or more specialties. Boston Children’s Hospital took the top spot on this list.

In addition to the top position in the pediatric diabetes and endocrinology specialty, CHOP ranked second in the neonatology, orthopedics and urology specialties and third in the cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, and neurology and neurosurgery specialties.

US News & World Report ranked 78 hospitals on its 10 specialties lists. The rankings were based on data from 183 pediatric centers and nearly 11,000 surveyed opinions from specialists. RTI International, a North Carolina-based research and consulting firm, collected and analyzed data along with the help of medical directors and other experts, according to a press release.
