ORLANDO, Fla. — Elena A. Christofides, MD, FACE, a physician in private practice managing patients with obesity, recommends ignoring the traditional USDA “Choose my Plate” and pyramid models for healthy eating and relying instead on planning meals around the categories of protein, fat and carbohydrates.

Choosing quality foods from each of those categories can aid in meal planning for weight loss, Christofides said.
