VIDEO: Human induced pluripotent stem cells may help study of osteoporosis, rare genetic diseases
BOSTON — In this video exclusive, Edward C. Hsiao, MD, PhD, an endocrinologist at the University of California in San Francisco, discusses his presentation on the use of human induced pluripotent stem cells as a tool for studying a number of human diseases, including osteoporosis and rare genetic diseases.
According to Hsiao, over the past several years genetics has developed to be valuable in the study of more complicated diseases.
“However, when we start using many of these tools, we often find that many, many genes are potentially involved and it’s difficult to tell what exactly those genes are doing,” Hsiao said.
