BOSTON — Laurence Katznelson, MD, an Endocrine Today Editorial Board member and endocrinologist from Stanford University, gives his perspective on a number of presentations and posters involving pituitary diseases.

According to Katznelson, a new medication, pasireotide, was able to control adrenocorticotropic hormone and tumor size in patients with Nelson’s syndrome. Currently, there are no real medical therapies available for the disease.

Katznelson was also interested in a presentation on the use of the new oral octreotide capsule and its effect on patients with Cushing’s disease. The drug will soon be reviewed by the FDA and more information about its use and availability is expected.
