Riverside Medical Center announces utilization of Glytec’s eGlycemic Management System

Riverside Medical Center, in Kankakee, Illinois, recently announced it will be using Glytec’s eGlycemic Management System to further strengthen its diabetes management program, according to a press release from Glytec.

The system incorporates a patient’s blood glucose information and other factors to calculate an individualized insulin dose, helping patients with diabetes avoid the dangers of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia.

“The prevalence of both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia in hospitalized patients is increasing and is associated with higher mortality, increased cost of care, and longer lengths of stay,” Michael Mutterer, senior vice president of Riverside Medical Center, said in the release. “Insulin management and glycemic control are critical components of providing outstanding-quality care for a large percentage of patients, which is why we recently chose to partner with Glytec.”

The system uses Glucommander, a clinician-developed, algorithm-based software, that was designed to individualize dosing recommendations for insulin therapy.

“As the health care industry continues to move towards value-based care, Glytec is collaborating with health care providers across the country to establish a new standard of care in glycemic control and improve patient outcomes across the continuum of care,” Melanie Mabrey, DNP, ACNP-BC, BC-ADM, CDTC, FAANP, vice presidents of clinical practice at Glytec, said in the release. “[Riverside Medical Center’s] many accolades demonstrate that they too share a passion for the best care for patients possible and we look forward to the impact our relationship will have on their patients.”
