An annual report on diabetes that outlines the link between diabetes and coffee revealed that moderate consumption could reduce the risk for type 2 diabetes by 25%, according to a press release.
The Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee recently released its third annual report that discusses the latest research on coffee and type 2 diabetes.
Key findings of the report include:
- Compared with drinking zero to two cups of coffee per day, three to four cups were linked to a 25% reduced risk for type 2 diabetes;
- Each additional cup could reduce the relative risk for type 2 diabetes by 7% to 8%;
- Effects are similar with both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee;
- And the type of coffee can affect the strength of the effect on reduced risk of type 2 diabetes. For example, compared with boiled coffee, filtered coffee and decaffeinated coffee had greater effects on reducing the risk.
