Martha Funnell, MS, RN, CDE, of the University of Michigan, shared findings from the DAWN and DAWN2 studies at the American Association of Diabetes Educators Annual Meeting.

The Diabetes Attitudes, Wishes and Needs (DAWN) study was first published in 2001 and demonstrated that patients with diabetes experience a concerning amount of diabetes distress. The DAWN2 study data, released in 2014, contained further data on emotional well-being, including the attitudes of supporting family members, some of whom share disease distress symptoms. This is true in type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and it is possible that family members experience physical symptoms of distress in addition to emotional symptoms. Funnell shares this data in a video exclusive with Endocrine Today.
