AADE’s mobile app helps patients meet goals in diabetes

The AADE Diabetes Goal Tracker is a mobile app created by the American Association of Diabetes Educators to help patients track and meet goals in diabetes management.

The app is available for iPhone and Android and in English and Spanish, with options to connect the app to other social media sites like Facebook.

“A unique feature of this app is the ability for users to share their completed goals with one another; allowing them to learn from each other’s experiences,” the AADE wrote in a press release.

The app is intended to put the power to manage diabetes symptoms and related health events in the hands of the patient. The program was written with the AADE7 Self-Care Behaviors in mind, which form the basis of diabetes education, according to the AADE. The AADE7 behaviors include “healthy eating, being active, monitoring, taking medication, problem solving, healthy coping, and reducing risks,” the press release said.

The app is available for anyone to download for free.

“Diabetes education teaches people how to self-manage their condition and is a proven way to lessen the complications that are often associated with diabetes, including circulation and vision problems, kidney failure, even heart disease and stroke,” the press release said.

The app was developed by the AADE, with support from Boehringer Ingelheim, Genentech, Lilly and Novo Nordisk.
