New app engages patients in fight against obesity, chronic disease

The tech startup 3Pound Health announced recently the commercial release of its health, weight and lifestyle management program, Euco.

“Clinician-patient interaction is such a critical part of achieving a weight-loss goal,” Wendy Scinta, MD, private practice bariatric physician and chief medical officer of 3Pound Health, said in a press release. “Typical weight-loss apps leave it all up to the individual to track calorie intake and exercise habits. With Euco, I can easily monitor my patients' behavior and coach them when necessary. And not only can I focus better on individual patients with the help of Euco, I can also see more patients in my office and aggregate data from patients across my entire practice.”

Euco features a dual-end-user strategy that engages both patient and physician in shared data, a growing trend in the endocrine specialty.

A press release from 3Pound Health said that the Euco platform engages clinicians with a web component, and it keeps patients involved with a personal coaching dashboard via mobile application. The patient can see his or her progress compared with the clinician’s plan for nutrition, exercise, medications, measurements and lab results.

The physician-centered web app is designed to enable physicians to maintain contact and provide needed interventions between in-office appointments, according to the press release.

“The vast majority of investment in health technology in the past 20 years has been in capturing the documentation of treatment," Brian Buys, president and CEO of 3Pound Health said in a press release. “With solutions like Euco, we have a real opportunity to take cost out of health care.”
