The requirement for using mass spectrometry sex steroid assays, scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2015, is suspended pending further scientific review, according to a press release.

The important notice was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism in October 2013, according to the release.

In order to address this issue, a task force of clinical experts will review the journals of the Endocrine Society for the scientific policies regarding the reporting of sex hormone measurements, according to a statement released this week by Teresa K. Woodruff, PhD, president of the Society.

Once the review is complete, new policies and/or clarifications will be announced, according to the letter signed by Woodruff.

“In instituting a time line for any policy changes, we will be sensitive to the needs of clinical investigators who are conducting and planning studies. We anticipate that the task force will complete their scientific review by June 30, 2014,” Woodruff wrote.
