World Menopause Day highlights new research, therapeutic options
The North American Menopause Society recognizes Oct. 18 as World Menopause Day in an effort to bring attention to the menopausal transition and breaking research advances, which improve quality of life for millions of women, according to a press release.
More than 50 million women are affected by menopause each year. Today, there is an emphasis on awareness of vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause and the treatment options available to patients, according to the release.
The latest clinical research, therapies and recommendations were recently highlighted at the NAMS Annual Meeting, including:
- Vaginal atrophy and new treatment options for easing the pain of menopausal sex;
- The recently uncovered dangers of compounded hormones;
- The latest findings regarding the risks and benefits of hormone therapy and;
- FDA approvals for the first non-hormonal drugs for effectively treatment menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes.
