AADE recognizes members for outstanding achievements
PHILADELPHIA — During Friday’s general session, current AADE President Tammi Ross, RD, LD, CDE, and President-elect Joan Bardsley, RN, BMA, CDE, FAADE, recognized various members for outstanding contributions to the field of diabetes education.
Living Legend award
The Living Legend award — first given in 2008 — recognizes an individual who exemplifies the proud history of diabetes education and serves as an extraordinary role model. A $5,000 donation to the AADE Education and Research Living Legend Fund is made in honor of the recipient.
This year’s recipient is Linda Haas, PHC RN CDE.
Allene Van Son Distinguished Service Award
This award recognizes outstanding contributions and services to the Association.
This year’s recipient is Donna M. Tomky, MSN RN C-NP CDE
2013 Diabetes Educator of the Year Award
This award honors a diabetes educator who has made a special contribution to the field through dedication, innovation and sensitivity in patient care. The award is supported by LifeScan, Inc.
This year's recipient is Gary M. Scheiner, MS CDE
My AADE NETWORK Coordinating Body Acheivement Award
This award recognizes the activities of an AADE Coordinating Body (CB) which significantly advanced and enhanced the MY AADE NETWORK Model in its state. This year, Coordinating Body leaders were able to apply/nominate their own state. The award is supported by BD.
This year's recipient is Pennsylvania CB
Innovation in Practice Award
The award supports the development or future implementation of an innovative practice, tool or approach for use in diabetes self-management education/training (DSME/T). This award is intended to advance the practice of DSME/T by supporting ways to improve DSME/T, better meet patient needs, and/or resolve critical, complex problems and barriers that are faced by diabetes educators and their patients. The award is supported by Bayer Corporation.

Advocacy Award
This award recognizes an AADE Member, volunteer, or other person that has made significant contributions to AADE Advocacy/legislative efforts. The award is supported by Novo Nordisk.
This year's recipients are: Rose Flinchum, CNS, RN, CDE, BCADM ; David K. Miller, RN, MSED, BSN, CDE; and Patricia "Mickey" Stuart, BS, CDE, MPh, MS
Rising Star Award
This award recognizes a diabetes educator who has less than 3 years of diabetes education experience and has demonstrated leadership and commitment in their practice. The award is supported by Roche Diagnostics.
This year's recipient is: Kathy Jackson, MS, RN, CDE
Innovative Use of Media and Technology Award
This award supports the development and/or implementation of a concept for the innovative use of media and technology to advance diabetes self-management education/training (DSME/T). The project should have the potential to significantly improve self-management among individual patient practices or broad diabetes populations. The recipient will receive a grant for development of the project. The award is supported by dLife.
This year's recipient is: Claire M. Blum, MS Ed, RN, CDE, CHWC, CPT
