CHICAGO — In this Healio exclusive, Manesh R. Patel, MD, FACC, FAHA, FSCAI, provides his perspective on a few of the late-breaking clinical trials presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions.

Patel discusses results of TRANSFORM-HF, which compared the effectiveness of torsemide vs. furosemide in HF; the Diuretic Comparison Project, which compared chlorthalidone vs. hydrochlorothiazide for preventing CV events in patients with hypertension; and PROMINENT, which evaluated pemafibrate for triglyceride reduction in the prevention of CVD.

Patel is chief of the divisions of cardiology and clinical pharmacology and the Richard Sean Stack, MD Distinguished Professor at Duke University School of Medicine and the Duke Clinical Research Institute. Patel is also the volunteer chair of the AHA Scientific Sessions planning committee.
