Gerresheimer reports increased earnings in Q2

Gerresheimer AG announced that it substantially increased earnings in the second quarter of financial year 2014, according to a press release.

The German specialty glass and plastic packaging company’s pharmaceutical products include insulin pens, asthma inhalers and prefillable syringes. It increased revenues during the second quarter to €335.4 million, up 2.6% from the prior-year’s quarter, according to the release.

Revenue growth was 6% compared with the second quarter of 2013 quarter when using constant exchange rates.

The pharmaceutical plastic business was the main reason for the earnings growth, according to the release.

“High-quality packaging for drugs and products enabling safe and easy self-medication continues to be increasingly in demand worldwide,” Uwe Röhrhoff, chief executive officer of Gerresheimer AG, said in the release.

The company also incurred €25.1 million in capital expenditures during the second quarter, to focus on adding production capacity for medical plastic systems including insulin pens and inhalers in Czech Republic and the US, the release said.

Gerresheimer has plants in Europe, North and South America and Asia.
