AANMA, AAP join to address pediatric allergy, anaphylaxis care

The nonprofit patient organization, Allergy and Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics announced it will partner with the American Academy of Pediatrics in an effort to improve childhood asthma, allergy and anaphylaxis care nationwide, according to a press release.

The joint effort will include the expansion of the AAP’s Medical Home Chapter Champions Program on Asthma — a national network of volunteer pediatricians — to address allergy and anaphylaxis care, the release said.

“The partnership with AANMA will open new and exciting opportunities for the chapter champions program,” Chuck Norlin, MD, FAAP, chairperson of the AAP’s program advisory committee, said in the release. “The program will continue to support a robust established network of pediatricians in the provision of care for children with asthma and allergies within the family-centered medical home. The program also will provide deeper education and training of clinicians through quality improvement and policy opportunities.”

Eventually, the group plans to establish best practices, evidence-based guidelines and resources in asthma and allergy care to pediatricians in their states, according to the press release.
