The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and National Jewish Health announced the official opening of the Mount Sinai – National Jewish Health Respiratory Institute at Mount Sinai’s campus in Manhattan, according to a press release.
“With one in four Americans suffering from a serious, chronic or life-threatening respiratory disease, the need for excellent patient care and cutting edge research has never been greater,” Kenneth L. Davis, MD, CEO of the Mount Sinai Health System said in the press release.
Michael Salem, MD, CEO of National Jewish Health, in the release, said the institute will provide patients with a plethora of respiratory expertise on the East Coast and elsewhere.
“For decades patients have traveled to Denver from around the country, seeking the expertise and unique approach to respiratory care that we provide,” he said. “Teaming up with the visionary teams at Mount Sinai and the Icahn School of Medicine extends our ability to share our expertise and innovations with more patients in the New York region and beyond.”
Physicians at the institute began seeing patients in January and are now accepting outside referrals and new patients.
Patients are currently being seen at two locations in Manhattan, however one permanent location is scheduled to open in the fall.
