A mental health nonprofit has announced 11 companies will make up the inaugural cohort of a program that aims to help startups improve the lives of those with challenges relating to mental health conditions.
According to a press release from One Mind, the participating organizations for One Mind Accelerator were selected from 105 applications and are expected to each receive a $100,000 investment.
The 11 emergent companies represent a broad swath of research, development aimed at improving treatment and outcomes for a range of mental health issues across digital and in-person platforms:
- Ceretype, a company that incorporates optimal image acquisition and advanced analytics that de-risks and accelerates development of psychiatric and neurological therapies;
- Flock Health, a digital health company that works to detect and reduce crises for patients suffering from serious mental illnesses;
- Flourish Labs, a company that helps college students support each other through digital and tech solutions;
- Flowly, a platform that uses virtual reality for managing stress and building resilience;
- Heading Health, which offers a personalized and holistic approach to treatment, guided by cutting-edge research and technology;
- Motif Neurotech, which creates bioelectronic implants that monitor and treat severe mental health conditions;
- Options, which uses telehealth to enable patients to access mental health care and treatment options that address severe and treatment-resistant mental illnesses
- Sanarai, a mental health platform for Spanish speakers;
- Somethings, a platform that connects teenagers with certified peer mentors who are trained to provide support through a digital delivery method.
- Tetricus Labs, a psychiatry company that uses breakthrough artificial intelligence computational neuroscience to deliver the right diagnosis and treatment recommendations; and
- Zama Health a behavioral health platform that provides mental health clinical intervention for athletes.
“We are thrilled to welcome these companies into the One Mind Accelerator,” Brandon Staglin, One Mind president, said in the release. “Each of them is already doing innovative work to empower people to face mental health challenges — whether by serving the underserved or using technology to improve treatments.”
The accelerator is slated to provide 10 weeks of programming and will encompass subjects such as working with payers and providers, pursuit of regulatory approval and formulation of novel organizations adhering to high ethical standards, according to the release. One key aspect of the program will be consultation and collaboration with those who are experiencing mental health challenges, which is expected to assist founders in creating products to address target markets added.
“I am excited that the One Mind Accelerator can have the same impact for entrepreneurs innovating for mental health.” Thomas Insel, MD, former director of NIMH, said in the release. “We certainly need a wave of innovation to solve the mental health crisis. The One Mind Accelerator can build that wave, changing diagnosis, treatment and outcomes with innovative solutions.”
