In this video, Lyons Hardy, MS, RN, P-MHNP, clinical assistant professor and concentration lead of the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, discussed the heavy focus on graduate education at the American Psychiatric Nurses Association Annual Conference.

Hardy highlighted changes that came out in accreditation standards and new bases for psychiatric nursing curricula, specifically the shift to a competency-based education model and changes to numbers of practicum hours.

“I think we need more guidance and standardization on developing the curricula so they’re preparing students effectively for their success,” Hardy said.
