NEW ORLEANS – Psychedelics, such as psilocybin, have been shown to be effective in treating substance use disorders, Bryon Adinoff, MD, said at the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting.

“There’s actually a long history of using psychedelics in the treatment of substance use disorders — particularly alcohol use disorders — that goes back 50 or more years,” Adinoff, a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, said.
