Lyons Hardy, MS, RN, P-MHNP, discussed talks on telehealth and the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact presented at the American Psychiatric Nurses Association Annual Conference in a video interview with Healio.

Hardy, clinical assistant professor and concentration lead of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, also talked about the pros and cons of telehealth from a psychiatric nurses’ perspective.

“Telehealth was used in psychiatry prior to the pandemic, probably more so than any other specialty. So, it wasn’t a brand-new concept for us. It’s just that it really snowballed and became a lot more prevalent. I think that there’s pros and cons,” Hardy said. “It increases accessibility for a lot of people and makes it much easier for them to get treatment. On the other hand, it feels different as a provider. It’s a different dynamic.”
