“The insights derived from the early data sets of the COVID-19 pandemic will prove to be integral in adequately navigating the mental health care system to better serve its patients,”Andrew A. Nierenberg, MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School and editor of Psychiatric Annals, said.

The July issue includes data sets from early in the COVID-19 pandemic that highlight how the pandemic placed an unprecedented demand on the health care system.

Among other topics, the issue’s articles cover the following:

  • how consultation/liaison psychiatry services responded and developed a model for remote/virtual consultation;
  • the process of development of wellness programs for health care staff;
  • a review of the development of acute stress disorders; and
  • guidelines for redeploying psychiatrists to medicine during a pandemic crisis.

Readers have the potential to receive three CME credits upon completion of the CME activity associated with these articles.

Psychiatric Annals’ Continuing Medical Education Editor, Lenard A. Adler, MD, vice chair of education and professor of psychiatry at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, served as the guest editor of this issue.

“We publish this issue with the hope that health care professionals around the world will have a little more insight on the field’s greatest challenge in decades,” Nierenberg said.
