SAN DIEGO — In this video, Frances Levin, MD, of Columbia University and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, reviews current research on treatment approaches for concurrent cannabis use disorder and ADHD.

Levin recommends the use of medications “when appropriate” and “having the patient’s response guide treatment.”

“One of the concerns clinicians have in using stimulants is the risk of abuse potential,” she told Healio/Psychiatry. “I think in adult populations, under controlled conditions, these medications can be used safely if patients are closely monitored, particularly with the use of long-acting formulations. But certainly, a lot more work needs to be done to decide what medications and what psychotherapies will work best in this comorbid and interesting patient population.”
