SAN DIEGO — Gene-targeted medicine can improve diagnosis and treatment of numerous mental health disorders, according to Jeffrey A. Lieberman, MD, of Columbia University and New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

“What we’ve found is that the genetic contributors to what seemed previously to have been a single illness, depression, actually are highly varied and have created multiple different forms of that depression which aren’t recognizable at a symptomatic level until you drill down to the gene level,” he told Healio/Psychiatry.

In this video, Lieberman discusses how precision medicine will “revolutionize” the field of psychiatry.
