The National Academy of Medicine recently announced the election of 79 regular members, including Karen F. Berman, MD, of the NIMH Intramural Research Program.

Berman serves as a senior investigator and chief of the Intramural Research Program’s clinical and translational neuroscience branch.

She uses neuroimaging to map brain structure, function and neurochemical mechanisms associated with neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, disorders with genetic sources of cognitive abnormalities such as Williams syndrome, and other cognitive processes such as normal aging.

Additionally, Berman’s research focuses on associations between gonadal steroid hormones and brain function.
