SAMHSA launches mobile app for medication-assisted treatment for opioid dependence
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration recently announced the upcoming launch of MATx, a mobile application designed to provide important information regarding medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder to clinicians.
“There’s nothing like MATx in the field today,” Kana Enomoto, MA, principal deputy administrator at SAMHSA, said in a press release. “It will be a significant step forward in improving timely access to medication-assisted treatment by enabling physicians and other care practitioners to better provide effective, evidence-based, and in some cases, life-saving treatment to people with opioid use disorders.”
SAMHSA developed MATx as part of HHS’s Opioid Initiative, which was launched in March 2015 to improve opioid prescribing practices, increase access to medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder and expand use of naloxone for overdose reversal.
The free mobile app will include:
- Information on FDA-approved medications for treatment of opioid use disorders and treatment approaches;
- A buprenorphine prescribing guide, which will include information regarding the Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000 waiver process and patient limits;
- Treatment guidelines, ICD-10 coding, continuing education opportunities and recommendations for working with special populations; and
- Critical helplines and SAMHSA’s treatment locators.
MATx will launch on October 21.
