VIDEO: Using naloxone for lay opioid overdose reversal

ATLANTA — Phillip Coffin, MD, MA, an internist and infectious disease specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, discusses current and future lay use of naloxone for opioid safety.

“Providing naloxone has become a critical element of our national response to the opioid epidemic,” Coffin told Healio.com/Psychiatry. “It has increasing data behind it, with strong recommendations from major national organizations, and is becoming increasingly more accessible with the new formulations that are available.”

In this video, he provides ways in which clinicians can provide naloxone, supporting data, and new formulations of the treatment.
