VIDEO: Expert discusses AMA, APA efforts to increase mental health care access

ATLANTA — Harsh K. Trivedi, MD, MBA, CEO of Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital and incoming CEO of Sheppard Pratt Health System, discusses recent efforts to integrate psychiatric services and increase collaborative care.

In conjunction with the American Psychiatric Association, CMS is working to develop collaborative care codes to increase access to and improve quality of mental health care.

“This would allow provides who are working within a collaborative care model — either at the location of service or in consultation — to be able to provide care to those patients with significant psychiatric comorbidities who do not seek care,” Trivedi told Healio.com/Psychiatry.

Additionally, Trivedi explains upcoming changes to the American Medical Association’s RVS Update Committee (RUC) process.
