VIDEO: Highlights from the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting

ATLANTA — Steve H. Koh, MD, MPH, MBA, chair of the APA annual meeting scientific program committee and assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of San Diego, discusses highlights from the meeting.

“We talked a lot about not only mental health issues but how they relate to societal issues as well as primary care medicine,” Koh told Healio.com/Psychiatry. “Some main highlights to look forward to at our meetings are the scientific advancements.”

This year’s meeting featured significant research regarding substance use disorders and addiction, which was strengthened by the APA’s partnership with the National Institute on Drug Abuse, according to Koh.

Additionally, innovative teaching methods such as debate formats, mock trials, learning labs, and break rooms appealed to new and younger audiences.

In 2017, the APA annual meeting takes place from May 20 to 24 in San Diego.
