VIDEO: Expert provides new neuromodulation methods for OCD, ASD

ATLANTA — Eric Hollander, MD, a professor of psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and director of the Compulsive, Impulsive and Autism Spectrum Disorder Program at the Montefiore Medical Center, outlines new methods of neuromodulation in obsessive-compulsive disorder and autism spectrum disorders.

“NIMH has been very interested in understanding symptoms that cut across different disorders, such as compulsivity, and understanding the underlying brain circuits that may mediate those symptoms,” Hollander told Healio.com/Psychiatry. “This naturally leads to new treatments like neuromodulation that can modify the activity of those circuits and improve clinical symptoms.”

Hollander and colleagues have been particularly interested in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to treat OCD and autism.
