VIDEO: APA establishes committee to increase physician knowledge of telepsychiatry
ATLANTA — Jay Shore, MD, MPH, chair of the American Psychiatric Association’s committee on telepsychiatry and associate professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, discusses his work on the committee to develop a telepsychiatry toolkit for clinicians.
Previously an ad-hoc work group, the committee has recently become an established committee of the APA in an effort to gather more information regarding telepsychiatry.
“This is critical as telepsychiatry is a burgeoning field,” Shore told Healio.com/Psychiatry. “Telepsychiatry really hit its maturity level in the last decade and is being used in a large array of settings. Despite this, there are many people unfamiliar with its practice in both administrative and clinical aspects.”
To address this, Shore and colleagues worked with the APA to develop a telepsychiatry toolkit as a resource for psychiatrists.
