APA announces preliminary election results

The American Psychiatric Association recently published preliminary results from the 2016 National Elections.

Voting for the 2016 elections closed at the end of the day on Feb. 1. The Committee of Tellers approved the following results:

  • Anita S. Everett, MD, section chief at Johns Hopkins Bayview Community and General Psychiatry, Baltimore, as president-elect of the APA;
  • Bruce J. Schwartz, MD, professor of clinical psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York, as treasurer of the APA;
  • Richard F. Summers, MD, clinical professor of psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, as trustee-at-large of the APA;
  • Roger Peele, MD, chief psychiatrist at Montgomery County Government, Rockville, Maryland, as area 3 trustee of the APA;
  • Melinda L. Young, MD, a psychiatrist in Walnut Creek, California, as area 6 trustee of the APA; and
  • Uchenna B. Okoye, MD, MPH, of the University of California, Los Angeles, as resident-fellow member trustee-elect of the APA.

The APA noted that these results are considered public, but not official until approved by the Board of Trustees at their meeting in March.
