CEO of AFSP elected to National Health Council’s board of directors

Robert Gebbia, MA, CEO of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, was chosen to be vice chairperson for the National Health Council’s board of directors in an election held Tuesday.

“By serving in this leadership role, I will give mental health a voice in the officer ranks. Based on a recent public opinion, we’ve learned that Americans feel that mental health is just as important as physical health to the long-term care of the patients we serve,” Gebbia said in a press release.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has set a goal of reducing the annual suicide rate by 20% by 2025.

“We know that we can’t do this alone, and it’s through working together with other patient advocacy groups, private businesses and associations on greater awareness and advocacy of health care issues that we will achieve this goal,” Gebbia said.
