Campaign to Change Direction aims to challenge mental health obstacles in America

Today marked the launch of Campaign to Change Direction, a national movement aimed at changing mental health in America, according to a press release.

The purpose of the campaign is to improve the coordination and collaboration among stakeholders across sectors, and challenge the current views of mental health.

According to the campaign website, the initiative was inspired by the White House National Conference on Mental Health 2013, following the Newtown, Conn. school shooting.

“Social impact comes from joining together. The American Psychiatric Foundation is pleased to stand with First Lady Michelle Obama, Give an Hour and the 50 other partners who have come together today under the ‘Change Direction’ banner to change the conversation around mental health in our country,” Saul Levin, MD, MPA, chairman of the American Psychiatric Foundation, said in a statement regarding the launch.

According to the campaign website, nearly 42.5 million American adults have a diagnosable mental health condition.
