Due to prior website outages, CMS announced it is extending the review, dispute and correction process deadline for its Open Payments System by one more day, to Sept. 11 at midnight.

CMS closed the Open Payments system on Aug. 2 after errors and intermingled data were discovered, including errors involving physicians with the same name or incorrect NPIs. The site was reopened on Aug. 15, and the deadline for submitting a dispute was postponed. Two scheduled maintenance outages resulted in an additional extension.

Physicians and teaching hospitals will still be able to open disputes after the Sept. 11 end date, but only data submitted by the deadline will be shown as being under dispute when the payment data are made public on Sept. 30 as required by the Sunshine Act.

Make sure you are prepared on Sept. 11 by reviewing our recent coverage of the Open Payments System, or visit the CMS’ website.
