AAP asks HHS for relief funds to help pediatricians stay open
In a letter, AAP President Sara H. Goza, MD, FAAP, asked HHS for “immediate, direct financial relief payments” for pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists “to keep practices open, pay staff, and procure needed supplies.”

Findings from a retrospective analysis suggested that the use of a rapid musculoskeletal diagnostic panel, or MDP, could have shortened the time it took to identify the cause of infection, provide appropriate antibiotics and reduce the length of stay for children.
PICU terminal cleaning fails to decontaminate air ducts, floors
Research presented at the annual conference of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, or APIC, suggests that although terminal cleaning can effectively reduce the presence of pathogens in the pediatric ICU that could cause health care-acquired infections like MRSA and enteric bacteria, certain surfaces remain contaminated — namely, air ducts and floors.

Risk for death after discharge increases with hospital-acquired MRSA
Researchers found that MRSA bacteremia did not increase the risk for death in hospitalized children compared with methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus Aureus, or MSSA. However, MRSA infections acquired in the hospital were associated with an increased risk for mortality 1 year after discharge.
