At the annual Infectious Diseases in Children Symposium, Lawrence Eichenfield, MD, chief of pediatric and adolescent dermatology at Rady Children’s Hospital, presented on the management and treatment of atopic dermatitis among children, which he said extend beyond dermatological concerns.
“We know it’s not just the rashes of eczema, dry skin and immune abnormalities,” he said. “There are all these secondary comorbidities that are associated, including asthma, hay fever, food allergy and higher rates of ADHD when compared to patients without atopic dermatitis.”
Additionally, Eichenfield discussed new topical and nonsteroidal treatments and biologic agents available for patients.
