As of May 31, a hepatitis A virus outbreak, potentially associated with a frozen food blend containing pomegranate seed mix, has infected 30 people across five states, according to the FDA.

The CDC has reported that 11 of 17 patients interviewed recall eating Townsend Farms Organic Anti-Oxidant Blend. CDC recommends that consumers do not eat the blend and discard any remaining product. If some of the product has been eaten without anyone becoming ill, CDC still recommends disposal.

The FDA has begun an inspection of the processing facilities of Townsend Farms of Fairview, Ore. Protocol is also being developed to test berries for the hepatitis A virus. Samples related to the outbreak, including the frozen blend, will be tested for the presence of hepatitis A virus.

The CDC, the FDA, and state and local officials are working together and will provide updates as they become available.
