Pediatricians anticipate ruling on constitutionality of Affordable Care Act

Today's US Supreme Court’s ruling on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act is likely to have repercussions that range from the overall functioning of the US economy to the individual patient and health care provider.
Since its enactment on March 23, 2010, the law has affected billing and reimbursement for primary care providers and general surgeons, besides providing incentives for health systems that demonstrate improved outcomes. If upheld, effects on Medicare, Medicaid, businesses providing health care for employees and those seeking insurance will be seen through 2018.
Insurance-related components of the law, including coverage of those with pre-existing conditions and subsidies for preventive care, will be felt by pediatricians across the country. Changes in funding for the NIH also are likely to have an effect on both clinicians and researchers.
