CHICAGO – Eye care providers may see ocular manifestations that indicate gastrointestinal disease before a formal diagnosis of the systemic condition is made, according to Lindsay A. Sicks, OD, FAAO, and Brian Liem, DO, at Optometry’s Meeting.

Flare-ups of inflammatory bowel disease may manifest in episcleritis, scleritis, anterior uveitis or other inflammation in the eye, Sicks said.
