CHICAGO – Autoimmune diseases affect both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye, Anthony DeWilde, OD, said at Optometry’s Meeting, but these patients can go 4 to 5 years without getting a diagnosis.

“As eye doctors, by linking ocular findings with other systemic symptoms, we can get them in the hands of a specialist sooner and begin treatment,” he said.
