J&J announces fall launch of new daily disposable contact lens

CHICAGO — The FDA and Health Canada have approved Johnson & Johnson Vision’s Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day and 1-Day Multifocal, and CE mark activities are complete, the company announced at Optometry’s Meeting.
The contact lenses were developed to provide all day comfort and visual clarity, in response to feedback from eye care professionals and patients that long days and increased use of digital devices are taking a toll on eye comfort, Johnson & Johnson said in a press release.
“After hearing from optometrists and patients, we responded to the demand for a contact lens fit for modern lifestyles and developed Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day,” John Buch, OD, J&J senior principal researcher, told Healio. “We invested in R&D and have been working to secure regulatory readiness in the U.S., Europe and Canada for lenses that meet every vision need.”
Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day is made of senofilcon A, has a water content of 38% and contains the internal wetting agent polyvinylpyrrolidone.
According to the company, the new lenses will be available in –0.50 D to –6.00 D (in 0.25-D steps), –6.50 D to –12.00 D (in 0.50-D steps), +0.50 D to +6.00 D (in 0.25-D steps) and +6.50 D to +8.00 D (in 0.50-D steps), with base curves of 8.5 and 9.0. The multifocal will be available in –9.00 D to +6.00 D (in 0.25-D steps), with the following adds: low, +0.75 D to +1.25 D; mid, +1.50 D to +1.75 D; and high, +2.00 D to +2.50 D. The base curve will be 8.4 mm, with a 14.3 mm diameter.
