VIDEO: Thinner corneas may safely have corneal cross-linking
NEW ORLEANS – The use of hypo-osmolar riboflavin 0.146% swelled thin corneas enough so that they could safely undergo corneal-crosslinking, according to Daniel G. Fuller, OD, FAAO, Dipl, here at SECO.
Fuller said that the greatest amount of swelling achieved among 33 corneas in his retrospective study was 162 microns, “so it suggests we might be able to go as thin as 300 microns as inclusion criteria,” and “a lot more people may benefit from having the corneal cross-linking procedure available to them.”
