Heru expands diagnostic tests on wearable platform

BOSTON – Heru announced the release of re:Vive 2.0, which adds color vision, contrast sensitivity and dark adaptation testing to its wearable diagnostic headset.

The company launched the expanded capabilities here at the American Academy of Optometry annual meeting.

The addition of these tests to the re:Vive technology, which already included automated visual field testing, allows the “elimination of several legacy devices,” Kara Isselee, Heru’s senior director of product marketing and events, told Healio/Optometry.

The six diagnostic modalities now support five CPT codes, the company said in a press release.

“The ultimate goal is to eliminate diagnostic devices and incorporate all of the testing into a wearable headset,” Keith Brock, Heru vice president of product innovation, told Healio/Optometry.

He said the company can push the software updates remotely to doctors who may already own one of the headsets.

Brock said Heru also plans to add visual acuity, stereo acuity and ocular motility testing soon, “to bring as much of the pretesting into the headset as we can.”

Longer term, the company will incorporate therapeutic applications, he said, using augmented reality technology to expand fields of view.
